Who provides AssortmentIQ
Briana Swords and Hock Ng, jointly operating AssortmentIQ, provide the AssortmentIQ service available at assortmentiq.com (“AssortmentIQ,” “we,” “us,” or “our”). This policy applies when a Shopify merchant installs or uses the AssortmentIQ app, visits this website, or enables an optional AssortmentIQ storefront analytics feature.
Information we collect
Shopify account and store information
We receive the store identity, store name, currency, Shopify plan display name, authorized access scopes, and app-session information needed to authenticate the installation. An online Shopify session can include the authorized staff member’s name, email address, locale, role indicators, and Shopify user ID.
Catalog, inventory, and merchandising information
We process product and variant information such as titles, descriptions, images, URLs, product and variant IDs, SKUs, vendor, category, price, compare-at price, cost, inventory quantities, locations, and merchant-configured planning settings.
Order and reporting information
We read the order, refund, discount, channel, location, line-item, sales, and cost fields needed to calculate merchandising reports. Order-level information is reduced to daily store and variant aggregates. AssortmentIQ does not persist order IDs, customer names, customer emails, postal addresses, phone numbers, payment details, or customer profiles.
Optional storefront analytics
If a merchant separately authorizes and activates the AssortmentIQ Web Pixel, we collect product views, add-to-cart events, checkout starts, and checkout completions. An event can include an event ID, event type, product or variant ID, product title and URL, timestamp, and a one-way visitor hash derived from Shopify’s client identifier. We do not use that hash to create a named customer profile.
App settings, diagnostics, and communications
We store settings entered in the app and limited operational diagnostics needed to secure, maintain, and troubleshoot the service. If you contact support, we receive the information you choose to include in that communication.
How we use information
- Authenticate the app and provide dashboards, reports, recommendations, planning tools, and exports.
- Calculate sell-through, inventory, margin, markdown, assortment, replenishment, and open-to-buy signals.
- Synchronize Shopify changes and keep merchant reports current.
- Secure the service, prevent misuse, diagnose failures, and respond to support and privacy requests.
- Improve service reliability and evaluate aggregated product performance without selling merchant or customer personal data.
AI-assisted features
When a merchant actively invokes an AI-assisted explanation, product copy, content diagnostic, or assortment narrative, AssortmentIQ sends the selected product or merchandising context to OpenAI to generate the requested output. Depending on the feature, that context can include product titles, descriptions, images, prices, inventory, margin, markdown, sell-through, and aggregated assortment metrics. AssortmentIQ is designed not to send customer profiles or customer contact information in these requests.
AI output can be incomplete or inaccurate. Merchants should review it before relying on or publishing it.
Service providers and disclosure
We use service providers to operate AssortmentIQ, including Shopify for commerce APIs and authentication, Vercel for application hosting, Neon for managed database infrastructure, and OpenAI when a merchant invokes an AI-assisted feature. These providers process information for the services they provide and under their applicable terms.
We can also disclose information when required by law, to protect the rights and security of merchants, customers, AssortmentIQ, or others, or as part of a business reorganization where appropriate safeguards apply. We do not sell merchant or customer personal data.
Retention and deletion
- Merchandising snapshot caches expire after approximately 15 minutes.
- Optional product-view and storefront-funnel events are deleted after 90 days.
- Daily sales and inventory aggregates, settings, and app-session records are retained while the app remains installed so the merchant can use historical comparisons.
- Uninstalling AssortmentIQ deletes the store’s active app data. Shopify’s later shop-redaction request repeats that deletion as a safety check.
Managed infrastructure can retain limited backup history for disaster recovery according to the provider’s configured retention period. Deleted information is not restored to active service except when necessary to recover from an incident.
Security
AssortmentIQ uses tenant-scoped database access, row-level security, encrypted Shopify access tokens and staff session fields, limited logging, authenticated privacy webhooks, and restricted production credentials. No online service can guarantee absolute security.
International processing
AssortmentIQ and its service providers can process information in the United States and other countries where those providers operate. Data-protection rules in those locations can differ from the rules in your jurisdiction.
Your choices and privacy rights
Merchants can disable optional storefront analytics by not authorizing or activating the Web Pixel, can uninstall the app, and can contact us to request access, correction, or deletion where applicable. Shopify also sends AssortmentIQ mandatory customer data access and deletion requests. Because AssortmentIQ does not persist customer profiles or order-level customer records, customer requests are normally acknowledged without a matching customer record.
Changes to this policy
We can update this policy as the service or legal requirements change. We will revise the effective date on this page and provide additional notice when required.
